Muharram is among the four sacred months of the Islamic calendar and is seen by Muslims as the second holiest celebration after Ramadan.

Muharram, also called Muharram-ul-Haram, is the month that marks the new year of the Islamic calendar and is observed in different ways by Muslim communities worldwide.

When Is Muharram?

Muharram happens on a different date every year in the Gregorian calendar. The reason behind it is that the Islamic calendar is 11 days shorter. Muslims start observing Muharram every year after the new moon sighting on the last day of the Islamic calendar. In 2022, Muharram starts on July 30, 2022, which falls on a Saturday.
